The sticker price tells you what a product costs, not how much you get. A $40 balm with 1,000 mg of CBD and a $40 balm with 250 mg look the same on a shelf. One holds four times as much.
The sum
Cost per milligram is the price divided by the total CBD in the container.
Do that for any product and you can compare them on one scale. We show it next to every price on this site.

Comparing two sizes
Bigger containers often cost less per mg. A 1 oz tin at $24.95 with 500 mg comes to $0.050 per mg. A 4 oz jar at $69.95 with 2,000 mg comes to about $0.035. The jar costs more up front and less for what you get, if you'll use that much.
Working out a serving
Tinctures, gummies and chews also list the amount in one serving. Divide the total by that amount to get the number of servings. A 30 ml bottle with 1,500 mg at 25 mg per dropper holds about 60 droppers. Divide the price by that number for the cost per serving.
Where the figure stops
Cost per mg compares quantity and price. It leaves out:
- Spectrum. A full spectrum oil and an isolate with the same CBD contain different things. Compare like with like.
- Form. A balm, a tincture and a gummy are used differently. Compare within one form.
- The batch. The figure is only as good as the amount stated. We take the total from the lab report where there is one.
Products priced another way
Not everything is measured in milligrams of CBD. Mushroom products list extract in grams, so we show cost per gram. A salve with no CBD, like an arnica salve, is priced per ounce. The unit is printed under the figure.
Codes and subscriptions
A discount code or subscribe-and-save price lowers the cost per mg too. When one applies, we show the cost with it on a second line.
